FSV #4: CE RÊVE BLEU (French Aladdin Theme Song) – French Cover Song

Learning new words through songs is one of the best ways to expand your vocabulary. Now, this may sound redundant, but Disney songs are great for learning any foreign language, including French. They are catchy and the accompanying videos really bring the meaning of the words to life. Hence, for this Vocabulary Set, we have chosen CE RÊVE BLEU (French Song Vocabulary, FSV #4), the French theme song of the ALADDIN Disney movie (the French “A Whole New World” song)  Although the French version is not a direct translation of the original, it has a great variety of words that should be part of any beginner or novice French learner’s vocabulary.

Q) TRIVIA TRUE or FALSE? The Parisian (Metropolitan) French and Quebec French (Quebecois, Canadian French) languages have different accents, yet they are so similar that they both use the same French translation of the Aladdin Disney movie & theme song.

A: False. There are actually two French versions of the Aladdin Disney theme song. The one introduced in this blog post, CE RÊVE BLEU, is the version produced in France using the Parisian (Metropolitan) French language & artists. There is also a Quebec French (Quebecois, Canadian French) version of the Aladdin Disney theme song called UN NOUVEAU MONDE (video below) which was made in Quebec (Canada), featuring Quebec singers with different lyrics. The characteristics of Quebec language & culture are distinctly different from that of Parisian French, especially when it comes to movies & songs. Often times, movies & songs will be dubbed or translated with two different French versions, one with Quebec French (featuring Quebec actors & artists) and another with Parisian France.
