French Song Vocabulary #14 introduces PLUS TARD by French Rap sibling duo Big Flo & Oli. (A duo so famous in France, they even have their own documentary on Netflix.) PLUS TARD is a somewhat slower French rap song that talks about the hypocrisy of adults saying “You will understand later.”.
I love this song since it’s one of the few songs that I can actually rap along to. And the good combination of both imparfait & futur simple tense examples in its lyrics make it a great song for a French grammar lesson.

A1Answer: (b) LOUCHANT, BLOQUER
Tu connais, non? Quand j’étais petit,
je pensais qu’en LOUCHANT trop…
je pouvais me BLOQUER les yeux. Translation:
Don’t you know? When I was small,
I thought by squinting a lot…
I could jam my eyes.
Vocabulary Notes:
LOUCHER (To squint; vt, -ER reg conj) – Here LOUCHANT is used in the Participe Présent form.
ME BLOQUER LES YEUX = To jam/block my eyes
– In French, they don’t just say “BLOQUER MES YEUX (Jam my eyes)”, they say “ME BLOQUER LES YEUX (Me block/jam the eyes)” with the pronominal verb (SE BLOQUER) and the reflexive pronoun (in this case ME).
– Ex1) JE ME LAVE LES MAINS (I me wash the hands.)
– Ex2) JE ME BROSSE LES DENTS (I me wash the teeth). To be honest, this was annoying in the beginning. But compared to all the other annoying things in the world (like getting corn stuck between your teeth), you get used to it. So it’s not too bad……^^
