Q1) The song title, L’OISEAU et L’ENFANT, means “The Bird and the Child”. Birds are very popular in France. Which bird is considered to be France’s national mascot or unofficial bird?

A1) The GALLIC ROOSTER is considered France’s national mascot & unofficial bird and has a centuries long history of popularity in France. As a symbol of strength and triumph of good over evil, it can be seen in many French homes on their kitchen dishes, cups and weather vanes. It is also often seen during sporting events, such as the 1998 French World Cup mascot, Footix. Enjoy this interview video of the person behind the Footix costume, Régis Fassier. Q2) Who is KIDS UNITED, the group that sings the song L’OISEAU et L’ENFANT? What relationship do they have with UNICEF?

A2) KIDS UNITED is a French children’s pop singing group created in 2015 to support UNICEF and its message of peace & children’s rights. Many of the members were discovered through televised talent shows, such as “The Voice Kids” or “La France a un incroyable talent”. Having gained much popularity many of the original members went on to start solo careers. Later in 2018, the group eventually evolved into KIDS UNITED NOUVELLE GÉNÉRATION (Kids United New Generation), with only one of its original members and a new set of kid singers. In the short video, the original KIDS UNITED introduces clues to their hit single MAMA AFRICA. (Maybe you can recognize some of the color-coordinated clues.)
